Shelf Care Isn't Selfish: Prioritizing Me
Professional mothers and caretakers hold multiple spaces and identities simultaneously. In addition to work and family, many professional moms and caregivers also manage aspects of life associated with race, spirituality, and being a caregiver to immediate and extended family. Although women have made amazing professional strides in society, the life domain specifically, self-care is overlooked and not explicitly taken into account in the work-life balance discussion. For the purposes of sustainability self-care needs to be a critical area of concern for women in the academy, traditional work, remote/dispersed work, and entrepreneurial work (Allen-Milton, 2020).

Workshops: Session III
Hidden Barriers to Career Success: How Impostor Phenomenon Undermines Our Sense of Belonging in the Workplace
The session will explore Impostor Phenomenon (IP) and its impact on success. IP describes high-achieving individuals who, despite their successes, fail to attribute their achievements to their work. Failing to address IP has implications for achievement and career development. Presentation will include results from an ongoing study measuring how IP relates to personality, anxiety, GRIT, resilient coping, and burnout. Specifically from a cross-sectional sample of faculty representing 120+ institutions. Also addressed is the question “Is it IP, racism, or sexism?” Participants will be given the opportunity to complete the Clance Impostor Phenomenon Scale to examine their own levels of IP. Finally, we provide tools for identifying IP and propose mitigating strategies.

In Plain Sight: building Capacity from Untapped Potential
We’ve probably all heard of the terms used to describe the behavior in today’s workplace. It has been termed as the great resignation because employees are leaving their jobs in droves. They are not just leaving their jobs; they are leaving their employers with countless vacancies that have now gone unfilled for months and some for years. As companies grapple with learning how to do the same or more with less, it has become evident that today’s workforce is nowhere near that of yesterday. Companies are challenged with determining how to optimize their existing human capital to meet their ever-growing business needs. Of course, recruiting new talent has always been a viable option but the reality is, even some recruiting efforts have recently been unfruitful. So, the question becomes, “what now?” In order for companies to continue to meet the needs of their customers, they have to focus their sights on their existing workforce. Organizational leaders have to be able to extract untapped potential from their existing employees in order to remain competitive. This workshop is designed to provide strategies for developing capacity in employees to maximize their performance and output.
